The estates contain a well-defined diversity of micro-ecosystems that coexist with the coffee among carefully preserved forested areas.

In order to prevent soil erosion, we use live fences of Erythrina trees and we leave untouched at least 30 ft. of natural vegetation near riverbanks and waterholes.

Additionally, we are initiating a Teakwood reforestation project for the estates. Plantations of arabica Caturra coffee, and recently Maragogype, share this bird-friendly ecosystem shaded with Guaba (Inga) as well as other local shade species.

Planted areas, together with the surrounding forested zones, streams and waterholes, contribute to create an environmentally benign and ecologically stable agroecosystem supportive to the continental migratory bird corridor as well as to local species of Mesoamerican flora and fauna.
